Overview
Rosmarino country house in Tuscany used to be a farm house that belonged to an estate owned by a papal family. It is now a country home of an ancient Italian family. This is their refuge and delight, and reflects their tastes, interests and preferences. A most personal and inviting home, Rosmarino maintains a delightful European charm and encourages a relaxed family holiday in Italy.
The setting is exceptional, along the open edge of a thick wood below a famous villa, that used to belong to a pope. The surrounding countryside is the outcome of architects' landascaping (Bernini's school), dating back to the end of the 16thcentury. Numerous trails will lead you through uncontaminated nature, statues, chapels and breathtaking views.
Fortunately the deep privacy and serenity of Rosmarino's setting is still within very easy touring distance of a comprehensive Tuscan itinerary. Notably, you are 15 minutes from Siena, which will undoubtedly become a central focus for dinners out, shopping excursions and cultural enrichment. All of Chianti is at your disposal via winding country roads, where you can come upon still-sleepy hamlets and important wine producers by turn. Florence is an hour's journey. You can drive in any direction and within 45 minutes find diverse opportunities for exploration and enjoyment among which Monteriggioni, Monteoliveto Maggiore, Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Sant Antimo, San Gimignano, San Galgano.
Rosmarino country house sits in the midst of this lovely and naturally abundant Tuscan landscape. Over the years, constant attention has gradually developed the gardens of Rosmarino that are marked by a lane of towering cypress, spreading shade trees and fragrant borders of lavender and rosemary. The abundant broome illuminates the spring landscape with vibrant yellow flowers. As you walk among the gnarled olive trees, a carpet of wild thyme and mint spreads before you, the scent refreshing the air. As the season progresses, there is fresh fruit to pick from the surrounding trees and flowers here and there for cutting and bringing to the table.
The handsome is accompanied by an adjacent and together they form the property as a whole. All the buildings are typical Tuscan 'casa colonica' constructed of stones pulled from the fields, roofed with rustic beams holding clay tiles and finished with cotta floors.
Low stone walls and crushed stone pathways link the buildings and gardens as they spread across a gentle hillside.
The (7 x 12 meters) is set below the house, reached down stairs through a bank of perennials. There is room for plenty of furniture around the perimeter. Perched at one end - taking full advantage of the glorious view - is a pergola, surrounded by roses and vines, for escaping the summer sun and offering a striking view up to the house. Alternatively, an enormous spreading evergreen helm oak tree provides a perfect site for relaxation.
The is down a path. Horses can be rented in the neighbourhood and mountain-bikes or motorbikes can be hired easily and delivered directly at Rosmarino country house. The effect is of a delightful compound, complete and full of distraction.
Throughout the summer the Chigiana Music Academy holds courses for professionals and regular concerts in halls, courtyards and churches throughout the whole province of Siena.
